Lil' Ditty Viburnum (Viburnum cassinoides 'SMNVCDD')

Leafed out and in bloom (May 2021)

Source: Condursos Garden Center (NJ)

Size shipped: #3 pot (measured 2')

Planted: In ground, September 2019

First flowering: May 2021

(This plant stayed behind when I moved in 2021; therefore, the following text will receive no further updates.)

Didn't bother trying to bare-root this one, as the root system seemed pretty good -- it was not difficult to tease and spread apart the roots, or to loosen a lot of potting medium from the root ball (even without the help of a water jet from the hose). It seemed to have a good number of buds, and it was greener with less fall coloration than the other specimens at the garden center, which hopefully equals healthier.

We got our first flowers from this viburnum in May 2021, and while I'm not quite sure what the fragrance is, it definitely exists and it's not offensive, so that's good enough. (Witherod viburnum is not grown for its fragrance anyway.) It hadn't grown much the year before, but it never seemed to show much drought stress and colored up decently in fall, though not on enough leaves at any one time to make a real show out of it.
