Notes:

Not recommended north of Sunset zone 32 and USDA zone 7.

Tolerates alkaline soils and both dry and moist shade. Unless you have a hermaphroditic cultivar (see below), recommended to plant at least one male for every six females to maximize fruiting. Cut out dead stems in spring.

By "cut flowers" here, I mean using the long-lasting dried "leaves" (not true leaves but modified stems; the actual leaves are microscopic) in arrangements.

Berries showy but poisonous.

'Christmas Berry' and 'John Redmond' (among others) are either monoecious or perfect-flowered; it's not clear from the source, but either way, they produce berries without needing a male plant. 'Wheeler's Variety' does the same and is implied to be parthenocarpic, but again, it's not explicit.
