Not recommended north of Sunset zone 32 (they claim hardiness to only 5°F) and USDA zone 7; Dove/Woolridge corroborate this by claiming that, even in USDA zone 7, it loses flower buds in the coldest winters.
Blooms before leaves emerge. Sympodial branching. Denser and best bloom in full sun.
Intolerant of heavy clay.
All parts highly poisonous.
