Pinus taeda
loblolly pine

Notes:

Sunset does not recommend north of zone 32, but everyone else (except Odenwald/Turner) claims USDA zone 6 hardiness.

Native to the coastal plain. Important timber tree in its native Southeast.

Needles in threes (usually). Fastest growth of any pine (though in the first 20 years, slash pine may be faster). Pyramidal (though loosely so) when young; quickly loses lower branches due to shade intolerance, resulting in a denser oval crown with age. Cones have sharp spines.

Tolerates seasonally wet soil. UFL claims fire resistance, but they did specify "in the wild", and they're outnumbered by NCSU and Dove/Woolridge. Dirr and Dove/Woolridge outnumber JerseyYards.org on salt tolerance. JerseyYards.org also seems to be an outlier in denying drought tolerance. NCSU claims alkaline soil tolerance, but only in their descriptive text (their database contradicts it), so I'm keeping the "alkaline soil intolerant" tag until someone else corroborates that tolerance.

'JC Raulston' is much denser, slower growing, and better looking. 'Nana' is similarly dense and rounded.
