Loropetalum chinense
Chinese fringe flower, Chinese fringe bush, Chinese witch-hazel

Notes:

Not recommended north of Sunset zone 32 (borderline) and USDA zone 7.

Primary bloom in spring for 3-4 weeks, but may rebloom at any time. Missouri BG and NCSU describe the fragrance as light. Increased sunlight improves flowering.

Susceptible to root rot; avoid poorly drained clay.

var. rubrum has red to purple new growth, especially in fertile, moist soils, and pink flowers, with UFL explicitly claiming hardiness to 0°F. 'Zhuzhou Fuchsia' is hardier, to -10°F (USDA zone 6), and stays maroon-colored through the summer.
