Jasminum officinale
poet's jasmine, common jasmine

Notes:

Not recommended north of Sunset zone 31 and USDA zone 7, except in containers; mainly included because of 'Frojas' (Fiona Sunrise), which is claimed (though admittedly not by any of my sources listed here) to be hardy to USDA zone 6. Logee's also recommends the species to zone 6, despite saying that it can be grown outside to 0°F (which corresponds to a mere zone 7).

Twining climber. Long bloom period. I'm not sure how Odenwald/Turner can call this species "slightly fragrant" when everyone else says it can perfume the entire garden.

var. affine is even less cold-hardy, taller, and with bigger blooms. 'Frojas' (Fiona Sunrise) has yellow new growth.
