This hybrid name encompasses a number of tree peony cultivars; there are actually a number of other tree peonies (such as P. delavayi, P. ludlowii, P. rockii, and hybrids thereof), but I am not about to attempt to catalog the countless varieties.
Can be slow to establish. All parts mildly poisonous.
Fragrance depends on the particular cultivar; Druse broadly describes the P. × suffruticosa scent as yeasty, as opposed to P. lutea/delavayi which smell lemony.
The following (not all necessarily P. suffruticosa; I'm just using this page as a catch-all) are claimed to be fragrant: 'Goldfinch', 'Kronos', 'Marchioness', 'Murad of Hershey Bar', P. ostii 'Feng Dan Bai' (Phoenix White), 'Guan Qun Fang' (Champion Fragrance), 'Hei Hua Kui' (Champion of Black Flowers), 'Qing Xiang Bai' (Delicate Fragrant White), 'Shan Hu Tai' (Coral Terrace), 'Shima-nishiki' (debated), 'Yu Ban Bai' (Jade Plate White), 'Zhao Fen' (Zhao's Pink), 'Zi Qiao' (Luoyang Red), 'Summer Night', 'Themis', 'Yang Gui Fei Wearing Crown of Kingfisher Feathers', 'Souvenir de Maxime Cornu', 'Qing Long Wo Mo Chi', 'Rimpo' (/Rimpoh/Rimpou/Rinpo/Rinpoh/Rinpou), 'Wu Long Peng Sheng', 'Alhambra', 'Chinese Dragon', 'Hesperus', 'Iphigenia', 'Age of Gold', 'Alice Harding', 'Black Panther', 'Brassy Lady', 'Brocaded Gown', 'Fuchsia Ruffles', 'Hana Kisoi', 'Hephestos', 'High Noon', 'Lavender Hill', 'Mystic Mood', 'Pluto', 'Princess Chiffon', 'Ruffled Sunset', 'Toichi Ruby', and 'Waucedah Princess'.
