Magnolia 'Spectrum'
Spectrum magnolia

Notes:

Sister seedling of M. 'Galaxy' from a cross between M. liliiflora and M. sprengeri 'Diva'; not a PHS Gold Medal Award winner like 'Galaxy' is, but on the other hand, Dirr doesn't call out 'Spectrum' for watersprouting.

Pyramidal in youth, rounding with age. Blooms at ten years per Sunset (I'm not sure how to reconcile that with Cal Poly's "at a young age", especially considering they're both based in California), with flowers larger than 'Galaxy' but fewer. Wider than 'Galaxy' and better suited for warm climates (in exchange for less cold hardiness, but still good through Sunset zone 41).

Sources: Sunset, Dirr, Cal Poly.
