Picea glauca
white spruce

Notes:

Better in colder and drier areas; not recommended for Sunset zone 34 or lower (stops at 35), except for 'Conica' which goes to zone 32. Susceptible to cytospora canker. Easy to transplant even when large.

'Conica' is the insanely overused dwarf Alberta spruce. If used, make sure to remove any shoots that revert back to the normal species growth habit, as they look downright disturbing.

Var. densata is the Black Hills spruce, with darker and denser foliage than the species but slower growing. Also, this variety is not even recommended for Sunset zone 37; like Juniperus scopulorum, it is recommended only for the more inland zones starting in Ohio (and Québec north of the St. Lawrence).
