Betula dahurica
Asian black birch, Dahurian birch

Notes:

AKA B. davurica.

Not clear if this species will even hold up to our climate. Missouri BG rates it for USDA zones 4-7 and calls it a more heat-tolerant substitute for B. papyrifera, but UFL says zones 4-5 only.

Tolerates drier soils than most Betula spp. Will bleed sap if pruned in spring. Poor compartmentalizer of decay.

Multiple specimens required for fruit set.

Suggest planting in front of a shady or dark background.
