Notes:

Taprooted. Tolerates heat better than other firs, but still prefers cool climates. Intolerant of heavy clay. Deer tolerance is debated (UConn vs. Cal Poly).

Needle fragrance is spicy and green, akin to turpentine.

Universally noted for compact habit; the cultivars can be even slower growing.
