Myrica cerifera
waxmyrtle

Notes:

AKA Morella cerifera.

Sunset is the outlier here regarding hardiness, willing to recommend this plant as far north as zones 34 and 39 (but still not 37). Most other sources I have seen are not willing to recommend this plant any farther north than USDA zone 7, but as I said on the intro page, I tend to trust Sunset more, since their climate zones are more granular and based on more considerations than temperature alone.

Planted to repel fleas.

Native to the piedmont and coastal plain. USDA asserts clay tolerance, which seems to agree with my own experience so far.

Poor compartmentalizer of decay.

'Emperor' does not grow as fast as the species and has finer leaf texture. 'Don's Dwarf' is dense to about 5'.
