Euonymus americanus
strawberry bush, hearts-a-burstin'
Notes:
Not recommended for Sunset zone 37 (stops at 34 and 39).
"Well-behaved", whatever that means. (Nonaggressive roots, perhaps?) Widely noted for its extreme sensitivity to deer (Dove/Woolridge call it "deer candy"). Avoid hot afternoon sun (native to moist woodlands and stream banks).
The fruits are not actual strawberries.
Poisonous if eaten in large quantities.
