Sciadopitys verticillata
Japanese umbrella-pine

Notes:

Notoriously slow-growing. Afternoon shade recommended south of Sunset zone 34. Taprooted.

When I say "cut flowers" for this one, of course I actually mean cut branches used in arrangements (both Sunset and Cal Poly suggest this use), as conifers obviously don't have flowers.

'Aurea', 'Ossorio Gold', and 'Ann Haddow' are golden yellow. 'Joe Kozey' is columnar. 'Pendula' is weeping. 'Variegata' is variegated with yellow. 'Wintergreen' stays green in winter and apparently could often be mistaken for plastic (is that supposed to be a good thing?) due to its gloss. 'Sternschnuppe' (Green Star) is even coarser than the species due to needles twice as wide.
