Frangula caroliniana
Carolina buckthorn

Notes:

AKA Rhamnus caroliniana.

Native to moist woodlands of the piedmont and coastal plain.

Thornless, despite the name. Very showy fruit (akin to a deciduous holly), edible (ripe when black), irresistible to birds, and therefore prone to weediness.
