Quercus buckleyi
Texas red oak

Notes:

Formerly known as Q. texana, a name now reserved for Nuttall oak (which was formerly Q. nuttallii).

Native to Oklahoma and Texas, not close enough to "eastern North America" for the tag.

Branches do not grow downwards as in some other oaks. Codominant leaders should be removed in youth; the tree will fill in with maturity.

Sources: UFL, Missouri BG, Cal Poly.
