Picea mariana
black spruce
Notes:
Not as easy to find as some other spruces; I list it mainly because, unlike other spruces, it tolerates wet soil. UFL does not recommend this spruce south of zone 5, but Cal Poly, Missouri BG, and AHS (heat zone 6) do. There is also a mature specimen of 'Doumetii' (more rounded, haystack-like shape) at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum in Morristown, so.
Sources: UFL, Cal Poly, Missouri BG, AHS, USDA.
