Magnolia denudata
Yulan magnolia

Notes:

Earliest-blooming magnolia in the Northeast; may rebloom in summer. As with other white-flowered trees, does well against a dark background. One of the few magnolias with notable fall color (though UFL denies this). Fragrance is lemony.

Avoid hot, dry, windy areas. Dirr/Warren say slow-growing (at least in USDA zone 8), but everyone else says moderate.
