Clerodendrum trichotomum
harlequin glorybower, peanut butter tree

Notes:

Reportedly not that attractive out of bloom. Can be leggy, so underplanting is recommended. Flowers on new growth, therefore effective as a cutback perennial in colder areas.

Bruised foliage smells of peanut butter, which apparently Missouri BG considers "malodorous".

Flower fragrance is heavy and spicy with notes of Oriental lily, powder, clove, and indole (similar to Korean abelia).

Earns the "weedy" tag from reports of "aggressive colonies" and suckers arising as far as 15' away from the trunk.

'Purple Haze' is hardier than the species, with leaves emerging purple.
