Chamaecyparis lawsoniana
Lawson's falsecypress, Port Orford cedar

Notes:

If not grafted onto rootstock "DR" (disease resistant), must have excellent drainage to avoid Phytophthora lateralis root rot. Intolerant of clay (UFL and Cal Poly outnumber USDA on this) and arid air, and must have deep soil.

Wind tolerance is debated: Cal Poly says suitable for windbreak use, UFL and Stoecklein say the opposite, and Sunset both has it on their "good for windy areas" list and states that all Chamaecyparis species need wind protection. I mean, what?

Fire risk is also debated (Cal Poly vs. USDA).

Countless cultivars to fit smaller spaces.

Sources: UFL, Sunset, Stoecklein, Cal Poly, AHS, USDA.
