Abelia × grandiflora
glossy abelia

Notes:

Should properly be in the genus Linnaea since 2013, but I don't see this catching on with nurseries or the public anytime soon.

Not recommended for Sunset zone 37 (stops at 34 and 35/39 depending on which page you consult).

Foliage retains reddish tint throughout the summer. Tolerates heavy pruning.

UFL, JerseyYards.org, and USDA outnumber NCSU on the question of salt tolerance. UConn and NCSU agree on deer resistance, and Rutgers and JerseyYards.org don't deny it.

'Edward Goucher' is less hardy but fragrant with a long bloom period. 'Mardi Gras' and 'Rose Creek' are also noted for fragrance. 'Little Richard' has earned the PHS Gold Medal Award.
