Halesia diptera
two-winged silverbell
Notes:
Var. magniflora, a PHS Gold Medal Award winner, has larger and more flowers.
"Amazingly" pest-free. Reportedly difficult to transplant.
Prefer cool, deep, rich soil (native to rich woods at wetlands' edges). USDA is an outlier in asserting clay tolerance; UFL explicitly denies it in their descriptive text (but then claim it anyway in the database information; who's checking these things?).
Combine with Rhododendron spp. Best visual effect when one can look up into flowers.
'PRN Snowstorm' is more upright with larger flowers. 'Southern Snow' has low branching, a central leader, and abundant flowers.
