Prunus 'Kanzan'
Kanzan cherry

Notes:

AKA Prunus serrulata 'Kanzan', but according to Wikipedia, orginated from multiple hybrids. I have no idea where the name "Kwanzan" came from, considering that there is no "kw" glide in Japanese. Also AKA 'Sekiyama'.

Good for underplanting. Clay tolerance is conditional on good drainage. Better disease resistance than most P. serrulata cultivars/hybrids. Blooms later than most cherries. Poor compartmentalizer of decay.

Cal Poly claims fragrant flowers, but I have found no other source to corroborate this.

'Royal Burgundy' is a sport with purple foliage all season but especially when new, with deeper-colored but similarly late flowers; it is less vigorous due to the purple leaves, but the purple fades somewhat with age.
