Notes:

Flowers inconspicuous; rather, it is the seeds that are highly showy. Seeds poisonous. Pollen may be allergenic.

I'm not sure why USDA refers to the foliage as coarse-textured; at any rate, Dove/Woolridge and UFL outnumber USDA on this count.

Native to coastal plain shorelines and piedmont marshes.
